Spiritual Adoption has Three Components
Prayer, Education, and Support for Mothers

Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen introduced the concept of Spiritual Adoption in 1973. Spiritual Adoption Program participants pledge to pray each day for nine months for an unborn child that  is in danger of abortion. While this child will remain unknown to his or her 'spiritual parent', God knows  who the child is. Naming 'your child' helps you to keep focused on the reality that your prayers are helping  to save a particular baby from the harm of abortion.

Prayer:

● Pray each day for your Spiritually Adopted unborn baby.

● Place the “stand-up” prayer card on your dinner table so your family can pray together for your “unborn baby” each day.

● Place an additional prayer card by your coffee pot or your  bathroom mirror as a reminder to pray.

All your pledge cards will be placed on the pedestal in  front of the St. John Paul II statue in the back of the  church. Visit St. John Paul II each time you go to Mass and pray for your Spiritually Adopted unborn baby.

Education:

● Monthly bulletin announcements will keep you updated  on “your” unborn baby’s growth and development.

Have your child/children cut out each month’s picture from the bulletin and begin a photo journal of the progress of your Spiritually Adopted unborn baby.

Support for Mothers:

● In April, we will celebrate the births of our Spiritually Adopted babies with a baby shower!  ● We will collect baby items to give to mothers in need after each Mass, and refreshments will be  available.

Spiritual Adoption Prayer

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of (name)
who I have
spiritually adopted and is in danger of abortion.

Your daily prayers are asking God for the health of your Spiritually Adopted unborn baby, and to  give the parents the grace they need to face each challenge.
