First we have two related, but distinct, ministries: Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion and Lector (Minister of the Word). These ministries afford a wonderful opportunity to the lay faithful to participate in the celebration of the Mass. During the first part of the Mass, the Liturgy of the Word, Lectors proclaim the Scriptural readings of the day. In the second part of the Mass, the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priests with the distribution of Holy Communion under both species, in the consecrated bread and wine.
In addition, we have sacristans, who help to prepare for the Eucharistic celebration, and altar servers, who assist at Mass.
