"Follow in My steps." As Jesus' invitation bids us, we walk in His steps. To further the Kingdom of Peace and Justice in our midst today, the two feet of service are needed: helping people survive a life crisis and working for long-term solutions.

One foot is the foot of Charity. This includes actions such as: "meals on wheels"; transporting the elderly to appointments; tutoring; being a "big brother" or "big sister"; sponsoring an immigrant or a refugee; helping with housing rehabs for needy individuals; stocking food pantries; visiting the sick and shut-ins; outreach efforts to youth; and volunteering in homeless shelters.
The other foot is foot of Social Change. Activities in this area include: community organizing; starting a co-op or a credit union to help the disadvantaged; advocating for change; public witnessing; participating in legislative networks, like I-CAN; writing and speaking to legislators; educating oneself and the public; andencouraging the government and the church to change policies that oppress.
Both feet are necessary if we, as Church and believers, are to follow Jesus' steps. We are gifted in varied ways. Some may help people in life-crises; others may work to change institutional structures. We complement one another as members of the Body of Christ. We need both feet to walk and keep our balance.
