Go RAMS!

2009 Cadet Tournament Winners

This program began in 2009-10 as an interparish league run by Carlos Capo at St Pius Parish. CYO will now be offering this as an official CYO sport beginning in the 2011-12 program year.

In the 2010 inaugural season, St Luke fielded two Cadet and two 5/6 grade teams coached by Mary Ellen Ball, Cathy King, and Dave and Mary Jeanne Burger. In 2011,  our program grew 56+ participants and 6 teams!

2011-12 Boys Volleyball Commissioner:  Mary Jeanne Burger.

2011-12 Fee: $75.00

Registration ends Dec. 8, 2011.

Dear Parents and Student-Athletes:
Evaluation sports are some of the most popular in the St. Luke Athletic ministry.
As such, we have a large percentage of our Student-Athletes registered. In every
sport, we endeavor to build a program involving faith, development (emotional and
fundamental), fair play and competition. All are important facets of Athletics.
None seem to be more divisive than competition.

Make no mistake, CYO is a competitive league. Our goal is to form competitive,
even teams of like skill level across the board. Of course, A team coaches are
free to choose the Student-Athletes they feel best fit their style of play. There
really is no such thing as a perpetual A player, although it does happen. A teams,
especially, will look for players that fit specific roles. In volleyball, for
example, coaches may look for setters, hitters, blockers or servers. They are the
first to choose and build their teams.

Coaches and assigned evaluators then rank the remaining Student-Athletes as B or C.
If enough are rated as C, we will form a C team at the 56 and/or Cadet level. We
find these teams benefit from playing with those of equal skill level and our
coaches can spend the proper time enhancing basic fundamentals and understanding of
the sport. We then use a snake draft (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 1) to form the remainder
into competitive B teams.

4th Grade teams are the only ones that do not split into A, B or C levels. Our
focus for these teams is to create equal teams as best as possible.
The evaluation process is important, and important to us. If a child is not
present, we will gather input from previous year or previous coach, as applicable.
We cannot possibly take into account friendships when we form teams; it is not
possible and not part of our goal. We would rather see competitive teams where,
perhaps, new friendships are forged.

At all levels, we will adhere to faith, development, fair play and competition in
our daily teaching. We are fortunate to have an enormously talented group of
volunteer coaches, more than capable of providing your children with an enriching,
CYO experience.

"Sports, because of the wholesome elements it gives value to and exalts, may become
more and more a vital instrument for the moral and spiritual elevation of the human
person...."
Pope John Paul II
