"Beggars for the Poor" is a special ministry of the Indianapolis Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Each Saturday morning, volunteers from different Catholic parishes and Christian churches load up a panel truck and go out onto the streets of downtown Indianapolis to provide 100 - 150 homeless men with food, coffee, clothing, personal hygiene items, and a friendly smile.
Shaping public policy is the responsiblity of every person. This group is responsible for analyzing political issues from a social and moral point of view. Issues important to the Church are selected for further research. I-CAN staff researches and drafts position statements based upon the Church's teachings and pertinent secular information. On a local level, St. Luke disseminates materials produced by I-CAN and takes part in actions as requested.
This group helps to educate Catholic spouses on how to deepen conjugal love and achieve responsible parenthood, with specific concern as to certain methods used to achieve and avoid pregnancies.
This organization provides aid to the poor and needy. Volunteers make home visits, answer the "help Line", and donation pickup phone lines and assist in the warehouse. Meetings are on the second and fourth Sunday following the 9:00 AM Mass. "Beggars for the Poor" is a special ministry of the SVdP. They provide food, clothing, and personal care items to the homeless.
